Yesterday, October 22

First stop -- Snitkov, where we have found a number of Berensons.  Our relatives there are said to have owned property.  A resident told us that the last Jew left 5+ years ago.
After asking several people, we found the Jewish cemetery, up a wind-y dirt road.  Alex has great instincts for finding Jewish cemeteries.  First, and most important, don't believe someone who says there isn't one or he/she doesn't know where it is.  Keep asking!
He said they are usually on hills, where people could not cultivate the land, and indeed this one was high above the town, which consisted of a store, a school and houses.  He also told us that the hilly position allowed water to run down, away from the cemetery, or if it was level, that there would be a ditch around it to catch runoff.
The cemetery itself was a pleasant surprise, although it was neglected.  It was grassy, fairly level with stones separate from one another, easy to walk around, and sure enough, a ditch surrounding it.
Once again, all etching was in Hebrew and we could not find any dates.  No attendant was in sight and there is probably none for this small cemetery in the tiny town.
Below are photos of a barn on the way to the cemetery and several stones:

From Snitkov, we made our way to Shargorod again.  Why, you ask?  Victor will tell you.  But first, lunch.   No restaurant was open except the mayor's place, Lavada, where we had dined the day before on potato varenikies with cherry varenikies for dessert, so we repeated that meal.  Alex had pelmeni.
With extra time, due to all the days I had planned to spend in the Shargorod cemetery, I decided that we should visit Krasnoye, a town where a number of my friends and cousins had ancestors, and where we found some Berensons.
Again we found our way to the Jewish cemetery -- a difficult feat, but again Alex proved himself  a master of discovery.
No Jews remain in Krasnoye, but we did see a stone of a person who died in 2010. I hope Vic will post some other photos of Krasnoye.
Then back to Vinnitsa.  We couldn't get a reservation at Marani, the wonderful Georgian place where we had eaten a few days before, so we went to Tiflis, another Georgian resto -- not a thrill.
